Product Description

This Norinco SKS represents the Chinese Type 56 variant of the legendary Soviet-designed Simonov semi-automatic carbine. Manufactured during China’s extensive production run from 1956-1980s, this particular example features the desirable matching numbers configuration, indicating all major components were manufactured and assembled together as a complete unit.

The carbine features the classic SKS design elements including the permanently attached folding bayonet, fixed 10-round magazine system, and robust gas-operated action. The chrome-lined barrel provides excellent durability and resistance to corrosion, making it ideal for various shooting applications. The adjustable rear sight allows for precise shooting at distances from 100 to 1,000 meters, while the hooded front sight post ensures quick target acquisition.

Chinese Type 56 carbines are known for their reliable construction using carbon steel receivers and represent one of the most prolific variants of the SKS design, with over 9 million manufactured by the 1980s across 80 different Chinese factories.

Historical Significance

The SKS served as China’s primary infantry rifle for three decades and saw extensive use by the People’s Liberation Army. This design proved highly effective in conflicts including the Sino-Indian War of 1962, where its semi-automatic capability provided significant advantages over bolt-action rifles. The Type 56 carbine remained in Chinese military service until the late 1980s when it was replaced by the Type 81 assault rifle.
